Miami-Dade Schools Shock: 22,000 Students Vanish in Just One Year — What's Behind the Mass Exodus?
• Hot Trendy News
MIAMI — Parents, seniors and alumni searching for the official DadeSchools graduation schedule can finally mark their calendars: Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) has released the full list of Class of 2026 commencement dates for all 66 district high schools.
Beginning Tuesday, May 26 and running through Thursday, June 4, ceremonies will roll out across the county’s arenas, auditoriums and on-campus venues. The district says the staggered schedule is designed to ease traffic, give families flexible planning options and showcase each school’s individual traditions.
Why it matters
• Miami-Dade is the nation’s fourth-largest school system, and its graduations draw more than 100,000 guests, making venue coordination critical for both families and local businesses.
• Early notice helps seniors secure cap-and-gown orders, photographers and celebration venues during Miami’s busy late-spring tourism season.
• Travel sites report that hotel prices near downtown Miami and Doral spike up to 20 percent during graduation week, so locking in accommodations now can save money.
Key 2026 graduation dates
• May 26–29: Early ceremonies for magnet powerhouses such as Design & Architecture Senior High, New World School of the Arts and MAST Academy.
• June 1–4: Large-campus commencements including Miami Senior High, Coral Reef, Felix Varela, Miami Palmetto and Hialeah-Miami Lakes.
• Exact times, parking maps and livestream links are available for download at Classof2026.DadeSchools.net, and each date will populate automatically inside the free DadeSchools Mobile App when users select “Class of 2026” from the settings menu.
District leaders speak
Superintendent José L. Dotres called the Class of 2026 schedule “a celebration of perseverance,” noting that this cohort began ninth grade while the district was still emerging from pandemic disruptions. “Their resilience is Miami-Dade’s resilience,” Dotres said in a statement, urging families to “arrive early, cheer loudly and share moments on social media with #DadeSchools and #MDCPS2026 to spotlight our graduates worldwide.”
What graduates should know now
1. Ticket allocations: Most schools are limiting seats to 6–8 tickets per student; check your school’s student activities office this month for distribution dates.
2. Cap-and-gown deadlines: Herff Jones and Jostens have set an April 10 last-call for standard-size orders; late fees may apply afterward.
3. Clear-bag policy: Miami-Dade police will again enforce a 12” × 6” × 12” clear-bag requirement at all large venues; plan accordingly to avoid delays.
4. Livestream option: Every ceremony will be broadcast live on DadeSchools.net/TV with captions in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole for relatives abroad.
Economic boost
Local restaurateurs along Coral Way, Kendall Drive and NW 79th Street say graduation week rivals Mother’s Day for reservations. The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau has launched a “Celebrate Miami Grads” microsite featuring discounts on hotel rooms, rental cars and Everglades tours aimed at visiting families.
