Apple’s Surprise Spring Reveal: 5 Game-Changing Products Unveiled Today
• Hot Trendy News
Apple has confirmed that it will begin producing the Mac mini in Houston later this year, bringing assembly of the compact desktop to the United States for the first time and doubling the footprint of its existing campus in the city. The expansion is expected to create thousands of jobs and forms part of the company’s long-term plan to invest USD 600 billion in American manufacturing and innovation.
Alongside Mac mini assembly, Apple will scale up production of advanced AI servers at the Houston site—systems that power key cloud-based features across Apple services. To support the talent pipeline, the company is also opening a 20,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Center that will provide hands-on training in cutting-edge manufacturing techniques to students, suppliers and U.S.-based partners.
“Apple is deeply committed to the future of American manufacturing, and we’re proud to significantly expand our footprint in Houston,” CEO Tim Cook said in a statement, noting that early shipments of AI servers from the facility beat internal schedules last year.
The move strengthens an already growing U.S. supply chain. Apple says it has sourced more than 20 billion domestically produced chips from 24 factories across 12 states and is on pace to purchase over 100 million advanced processors from TSMC’s new Arizona fab in 2026. Key partners are investing heavily as well: silicon-wafer supplier GlobalWafers recently opened a USD 4 billion plant in Sherman, Texas, while Amkor Technology broke ground on a USD 7 billion advanced-packaging facility in Arizona that will handle Apple chip orders. Corning has also dedicated its Harrodsburg, Kentucky, operation to producing iPhone and Apple Watch cover glass for global shipments.
Apple’s domestic push echoes reports earlier this week that the company would relocate some Mac mini manufacturing from Asia to Houston, a move first flagged by the Wall Street Journal. By diversifying production locations and deepening ties with U.S. component makers, Apple aims to reduce geopolitical risk, meet rising demand for AI hardware and capitalize on federal incentives designed to boost advanced manufacturing.
For consumers, the Houston-built Mac mini is expected to retain the M-series chip lineup while benefitting from faster domestic logistics. Analysts say the project could lay the groundwork for additional U.S. assembly lines as Apple balances global efficiency with supply-chain resilience—an approach likely to influence future MacBook, iPad and iPhone production strategies.
