YouTube TV Just Rolled Out Multiview Sports, 4K Upgrade & a Price Cut — Everything You Need to Know

YouTube TV’s monthly price has officially jumped to $82.99 for the Base Plan, a $10 hike that began hitting existing subscribers’ bills on 13 January 2025 after taking effect for new sign-ups in December 2024. It’s the fourth and steepest increase since the live-TV streamer launched in 2017, pushing its cost up 137 percent in eight years. Google cites “rising content costs” and continued investment in features like unlimited DVR, multiview, and 4K Plus as the primary drivers. Paramount channels stay—for now As the higher bills rolled out, YouTube TV also faced the prospect of losing 23 Paramount Global networks, including CBS, CBS Sports, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and MTV. On 13 February 2025 the company warned that the channels could vanish if a new carriage deal wasn’t reached before midnight. Two days later, Google and Paramount announced a renewed, multiyear agreement that kept the lineup intact, averting a black-out that would have removed local CBS stations—and next season’s NFL and March Madness coverage—from the platform. Why is YouTube TV getting more expensive? • Content licensing: Sports rights fees and retransmission costs for local broadcast affiliates have soared. Google pays networks per subscriber, so its bill rises every time viewership grows. • Product additions: YouTube TV rolled out key upgrades in 2024, including NFL Sunday Ticket integration, multiview sports streams, and expanded 4K Plus availability. Maintaining cloud DVR infrastructure and regional sports feeds adds to overhead. • Competitive positioning: Rivals such as Hulu + Live TV ($76.99), Fubo ($79.99), and DirecTV Stream ($84.99) raised rates in the past year, giving YouTube TV room to climb while remaining price-competitive. What subscribers can do to save 1. Pause service for up to six months. You won’t lose recordings and can re-activate before the NFL season. 2. Downgrade premium add-ons. Cancel 4K Plus ($9.99 after promo), Entertainment Plus, or extra Spanish-language packages if you rarely watch them. 3. Consider an antenna + FAST combo. Free over-air HD plus ad-supported streamers like Pluto TV can replace much of the linear lineup at zero cost. 4. Rotate services. Subscribe only during peak sports months, then switch to cheaper on-demand platforms. Should cord-cutters expect more hikes? Industry analysts say yes. Live-sports contracts run through the end of the decade, and broadcasters continue to demand higher retransmission fees. Unless Google locks in longer-term deals or shifts to variable pricing tiers, another $5-$10 increase by 2027 is likely, mirroring past cadence. The bottom line YouTube TV remains the most popular live-TV streaming service in the U.S., thanks to its channel depth, unlimited DVR, and tight YouTube ecosystem integration. But the latest $82.99 price tag and near-miss with Paramount underscore a new reality: the convenience of streaming no longer guarantees savings over cable. Subscribers who stay should audit their add-ons and usage habits, while prospective cord-cutters must weigh whether the platform’s sports coverage and user experience justify the 2025 price of admission.
