Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) are tracking three separate systems this morning, and each poses its own set of hazards over the next five days. Tropical Depression Two – Gulf of Mexico • Location: 28.0° N, 85.1° W (about 150 mi south-southeast of Pensacola) • Movement: NNW 3 mph | Max winds: 30 mph | Pressure: 1008 mb The depression is crawling toward the Florida Panhandle and is expected to reach tropical-storm strength before landfall late Monday night. Confidence is high that 4–8 inches of rain, with isolated 12-inch totals, will trigger flash flooding from Tallahassee to Mobile. Tropical-storm watches are in effect, and surf north of Tampa will build rapidly today. If sustained winds exceed 39 mph, the storm will take the next Atlantic name, Bertha. Tropical Storm Fausto – Eastern Pacific • Location: 12.6° N, 114.7° W | Max winds: 45 mph Fausto continues to strengthen over warm waters and could reach 60 mph by Wednesday while staying well offshore. Swells will still propagate toward the Baja California Sur resorts late week, producing dangerous rip currents. Mariners should avoid the forecast track corridor extending northwestward to 18° N. Tropical Storm Elida – Eastern Pacific • Location: 24.1° N, 126.8° W | Max winds: 50 mph Elida is accelerating into cooler waters and is forecast to weaken to a tropical depression by Tuesday night. While no coastal watches are required, shipping lanes between Cabo San Lázaro and the open-ocean routes to Hawaii will encounter rough seas up to 15 ft through tomorrow morning. Key impacts and timing • Florida Panhandle: Earliest tropical-storm-force winds could arrive Monday afternoon; plan for power outages and road closures in low-lying areas. • Southeast U.S. rainfall: A swath of 2–4 inches of tropical downpours may extend inland across southern Georgia and eastern Alabama Tuesday. • Pacific marine interests: Highest seas from Fausto spread across 110°–120° W mid-week; Elida’s diminishing wind field moves beyond 130° W by Thursday. Preparedness tips 1. Review hurricane evacuation routes if you live from Apalachicola to Gulf Shores. 2. Clear gutters and storm drains today; heavy rain bands will arrive well ahead of the center. 3. Beachgoers along the Gulf and southern California coast should heed red-flag warnings for rip currents created by distant storms. Stay tuned to the NHC for official forecast updates and your local National Weather Service office for site-specific hazards. Search terms such as “tropical storm weather forecast,” “Tropical Depression Two forecast,” and “Florida Panhandle tropical storm” will deliver the latest advisories throughout the event.
