SL vs ENG World Cup Thriller: Live Score, Highlights & Key Moments as Sri Lanka Face England Today

A record-breaking run-fest in Rawalpindi has catapulted the “SL vs ENG” rivalry back into the spotlight, as Sri Lanka stunned England by chasing 430 with one ball to spare in the ongoing ODI tri-series. Driven by Pavan Rathnayake’s ice-cool 130 (106), Dasun Shanaka’s 97 off 50 and Avishka Fernando’s 97 off 83, the islanders sealed the second-highest successful chase in ODI history, levelling the series and igniting global cricket chatter. England appeared untouchable after captain Harry Brook smashed an unbeaten 202 (116) in a commanding 429/4, supported by Will Jacks’ 66 (30) and Joe Root’s 69 (66). Yet Sam Curran’s 103-run hammering underlined how Rawalpindi’s true surface turned bowlers into passengers once Sri Lanka’s counter-attack began. Shanaka’s eight sixes flipped the equation, before tail-ender Pramod Madushan nudged the winning single to spark wild scenes. Why this matters for fans and fantasy managers 1. Momentum swing: Sri Lanka leapfrog England on net run rate ahead of Saturday’s rematch, a virtual semi-final for a place in next week’s tri-series final. 2. Form watch: Rathnayake rises 12 spots in the ICC ODI batting rankings projection, while Brook’s double-ton keeps him on course for a top-five berth. 3. Streaming surge: With “SL vs ENG live” searches peaking, broadcasters in India (Disney+ Hotstar), UK (Sky Sports) and USA (Willow TV) expect record sign-ups for the next clash. 4. Fantasy picks: Shanaka (all-round points) and Jacks (power-play aggression) become must-haves, whereas pacers need benching on this high-scoring pitch. Key stats to share on socials • 430/8 – Sri Lanka’s highest ODI chase, 2nd all-time overall. • 202* – Brook’s knock is the fastest double-century by an Englishman (116 balls). • 8 × 6 – Shanaka now tops the tri-series six-hitting chart (13). • 103 – Runs conceded by Curran, England’s most expensive ODI spell ever. What’s next? The two sides meet again on 31 October under lights. England must tighten death bowling and may recall Mark Wood for extra pace, while Sri Lanka consider resting Shanaka’s sore ankle to keep him fresh for the final. Ticket demand has spiked 180 % since the chase; early birds can still secure seats via the official ICC portal.
