Sam Elliott Trending: Why the Legendary Cowboy Actor Is Suddenly Everywhere
• Hot Trendy News
Sam Elliott is saddling up for another ride with creator Taylor Sheridan: the Oscar-nominated actor has been tapped as a series regular for “Landman” Season 2 on Paramount+.
Currently shooting in West Texas, the oil-boom drama will see Elliott share the screen with returning star Billy Bob Thornton, along with Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan and Colm Feore. While his character is being kept under wraps, the casting reunites Elliott and Thornton for the first time since their acclaimed turns in Sheridan’s hit prequel “1883” and, long before that, the cult western “Tombstone.”
“Landman” adapts the Texas Monthly/Imperative Entertainment podcast “Boomtown,” chronicling the high-stakes world of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires reshaping the energy industry—and the climate—in modern-day West Texas. The first season ranked among Paramount+’s top-ten streaming originals and delivered the service’s most-watched global premiere and finale to date, helping earn Thornton a Golden Globe nomination.
Elliott’s gravel-rich voice and laconic charisma have made him a Hollywood mainstay for nearly six decades, from “Mask,” “The Big Lebowski” and “A Star Is Born” to TV favorites “The Ranch” and “Grace and Frankie.” His recent Emmy-winning performance in “1883” proved he remains a commanding presence on the small screen, and “Landman” positions him once again at the heart of Sheridan’s ever-expanding television universe.
Behind the camera, Sheridan and co-creator Christian Wallace executive-produce alongside a roster that includes Thornton, David C. Glasser and 101 Studios. With production well underway, industry insiders expect Season 2 to gush onto Paramount+ before year’s end.
For fans of neo-western storytelling, Elliott’s arrival promises to deepen the gritty authenticity that has become a Sheridan hallmark. As the veteran actor trades cowboy spurs for steel-toed boots, “Landman” Season 2 is shaping up to be one of 2025’s must-watch TV events.
