Soaring High: How the Eagles’ Stunning Comeback Shook the NFL—Highlights, Analysis & What Comes Next

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Eagles finally have a spark. With star running back Saquon Barkley back from a two-game hamstring layoff, Nick Sirianni’s injury-riddled squad stormed out to an early 7-3 lead over the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football thanks to Barkley’s explosive 49-yard opening series capped by an 8-yard touchdown run. Key takeaways so far • Barkley looks healthy. His first two touches went for 12 and 29 yards, instantly reviving an offense that ranked 28th in rushing without him. • Backup quarterback Tanner McKee is under center with Jalen Hurts (shoulder) inactive, yet the rookie commanded a balanced 50/50 split between shotgun and under-center looks on the opening drive. • Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams rescued a botched tush-push attempt by drawing a neutral-zone infraction, extending a drive that kept Philadelphia’s momentum alive. Why this game matters The Eagles enter Week 7 on a four-game skid that has sunk them to 2-4 and last place in the NFC East. A primetime victory over rival Dallas (also 2-4) would: 1. Snap the losing streak and keep Philly within striking distance of the first-place Giants. 2. Reassert Sirianni’s run-first identity now that Barkley and LG Landon Dickerson (knee) are back in the lineup. 3. Give McKee a statement win while Hurts rehabs, easing quarterback controversy chatter. Injury report • Philadelphia inactives: WR DeVonta Smith (ankle), WR Dontayvion Wicks (concussion), OLB Nolan Smith, QB Cole Payton (emergency), DB Michael Carter II, OL Jake Majors. • Dallas inactives: WR KaVontae Turpin, RB Emari Demercado, LB Dee Winters, OLB Tyrus Wheat, OT Drew Shelton. Game flow After Brandon Aubrey’s 55-yard field goal put Dallas up 3-0, Philadelphia answered with a nine-play, 75-yard march highlighted by Barkley’s burst runs behind Dickerson and LT Jordan Mailata. Dallas countered on the next possession when Dak Prescott found CeeDee Lamb in the back-right pylon for a 10-7 lead, exposing an Eagles secondary already missing CB Darius Slay (thumb, IR). What to watch next • Can Philadelphia’s pass rush, led by Haason Reddick and rookie edge rusher Jalyx Hunt, unsettle Prescott and mask the battered secondary? • Will McKee continue to protect the football? His lone turnover this season came on a strip-sack in Week 5. • How many snaps will Barkley log? Coaches hinted at a 20-touch pitch count, but early returns suggest the plan may expand if his hamstring holds up.
