Motörhead Guitar Legend Phil Campbell Dead at 64—Rock Community Mourns Iconic Axe Hero
• Hot Trendy News
Fans of Welsh rocker Phil Campbell woke up to disappointing news this week: Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons have scrapped every show on their March-to-May 2026 itinerary after doctors advised the 64-year-old guitarist to rest. In a joint statement, the family-fronted band apologized “for the inconvenience this is likely to cause our fans, but Phil’s health will always be our number one priority.” The decision affects nine dates across Australia and Europe, including Brisbane (Mar 6), Sydney (Mar 7), Melbourne (Mar 8), Adelaide (Mar 10), Perth (Mar 11), Germany’s No Playback Festival (Apr 18), Norway’s Karmøygeddon Metal Festival (May 2), Slovenia’s Tolmin Open Air (May 9) and Germany’s Resäcker Open Air (May 16).
Although the spring leg is off, summer dates remain intact for now. The hard-rock outfit still plans to relaunch on June 5 at Karpaty Hard Fest in Slavičín, Czechia, before hitting major European festivals and a coveted support slot for Judas Priest in Warsaw on July 28. Ticket-holders for the canceled shows are being urged to contact point of purchase for refunds or rescheduling options.
The health setback comes during a pivotal transition period for the former Motörhead guitarist. After releasing their third studio album, Kings of the Asylum, in 2023—the first to feature vocalist Joel Peters—Campbell revealed the group has “about eight to 10 song ideas” demoed for album four and hopes to secure a permanent front-man following Peters’ exit. Touring duties are currently handled by Fury singer Julian Jenkins, who will remain on board once the trek resumes.
Campbell’s legion of devotees flooded social media with messages of support, urging the guitarist to “come back stronger.” Industry insiders say the swift announcement and clear refund guidance could help the band maintain goodwill and minimize financial fallout, especially with marquee summer slots still on the calendar.
What’s next? Barring further medical concerns, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons aim to return to the studio in late winter to begin serious sessions for their as-yet-untitled fourth LP. For now, the priority is clear: Phil Campbell’s health takes center stage, and fans worldwide are hoping the metal legend will be riff-ready in time for festival season.
