Milos Kerkez Transfer Rumor: Manchester United Plot €30m Raid for Bournemouth’s Rising Star
• Hot Trendy News
Liverpool have completed the signing of Hungary’s highly-rated left-back Miloš Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth in a deal worth about £40 million, strengthening new head coach Arne Slot’s options on the flank ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.
Kerkez, 21, has signed a long-term contract at Anfield after passing a medical on Wednesday. The Budapest-born defender impressed during his single season on the south coast, making 37 league appearances for the Cherries and ranking among the division’s top five full-backs for progressive carries and successful tackles per 90 minutes.
Slot identified left-back as a “priority position” once pre-season analysis flagged concerns over Andy Robertson’s recent injury record. Liverpool’s recruitment department fast-tracked talks with Bournemouth last week, agreeing an initial £34 m fee with a further £6 m in performance-related add-ons.
Speaking to club media, Kerkez said: “Since I was a kid I dreamed of playing at Anfield. I want to bring energy, speed and Hungarian passion to this team.”
The rapid rise
• 2019: Leaves hometown side Rapid Wien academy for AC Milan’s youth setup.
• 2022-23: Breakout year at AZ Alkmaar; reaches UEFA Conference League semi-final.
• 2024-25: Joins Bournemouth, wins club’s Young Player of the Season.
• June 2025: Features in all three of Hungary’s EURO 2024 group matches before the Reds move quickly to secure his signature.
What Kerkez offers Liverpool
1. Explosive overlapping runs that complement Luis Díaz’s inverted movements.
2. Aggressive counter-pressing ethos aligned with Slot’s high-tempo style.
3. Age profile fits Fenway Sports Group’s “buy-to-develop” model; resale value remains high.
Impact on Bournemouth
Bournemouth will reinvest part of the fee in multiple positions, with Burnley’s Ian Maatsen and Stuttgart’s Maximilian Mittelstädt among early replacements considered by sporting director Richard Hughes.
Hungary’s view
National-team coach Marco Rossi hailed the move as “a testament to Hungarian football’s development,” adding that regular Champions League football will sharpen Kerkez ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
What happens next
Kerkez is expected to link up with Liverpool’s squad for their US tour in mid-July. If paperwork is finalised before 1 July, he will be eligible for the Reds’ Community Shield clash with Manchester City at Wembley.
