Mikaela Shiffrin Makes History Again: Record-Breaking Victory Highlights and What It Means for Alpine Skiing
• Hot Trendy News
U.S. alpine skiing superstar Mikaela Shiffrin clinched her record-equalling sixth overall FIS World Cup Crystal Globe on Wednesday in Lillehammer, sealing a dominant 2025-26 season that also delivered her 110th career World Cup victory and a record ninth slalom win of the year.
Shiffrin’s 11th-place finish in the season-ending giant slalom at Hafjell was enough to keep emerging German all-rounder Emma Aicher at bay, closing the campaign with 1,410 points to Aicher’s 1,323. The American needed only a top-15 result after winning Tuesday’s slalom by 1.32 seconds, but still attacked the icy track to cement her place alongside Austrian legend Annemarie Moser-Pröll in the World Cup record books.
“This globe is a symbol of the work my team has poured into every training run and race,” Shiffrin said after hoisting the crystal trophy. “The last three years have been a whirlwind, but races like these keep pushing me to a higher level, and I’m grateful for it”.
The 31-year-old finishes the winter with:
• Nine slalom wins in 10 starts—extending her own discipline record.
• Three giant-slalom victories, despite a limited schedule.
• A ninth career slalom Crystal Globe, plus the overall title, underscoring her versatility across technical events.
Aicher, 22, has emerged as Shiffrin’s nearest challenger by scoring in all four disciplines, but the American’s unmatched consistency in slalom and giant slalom kept her clear in the overall chase. Shiffrin now turns her focus to summer conditioning and early-season speed blocks as she eyes further milestones—and a potential third Olympic gold—at Milano Cortina 2026.
With six overall titles, 110 World Cup wins and the hunger for more, Mikaela Shiffrin remains the benchmark every Alpine rival must chase—on the results sheet and in the Google search bar.
