Knicks Watch Party Tonight: Best NYC Bars, Free Merch & Live Game Giveaways Fans Can’t Miss
• Hot Trendy News
New York is bracing for a sea of blue and orange Saturday night as the Knicks attempt to end a 53-year title drought—and this time the official watch parties are back. Madison Square Garden’s parent company has confirmed three sanctioned “Knicks watch party” sites for Game 5 of the NBA Finals:
1. Radio City Music Hall – 6th Avenue & 50th Street
• 6,000-seat indoor big-screen broadcast
• $10 tickets released online at 10 a.m. ET Saturday
• Knicks alumni and the City Dancers scheduled to appear
2. Plaza 33 outside MSG – 33rd Street between 7th & 8th Avenues
• Outdoor block party capped at 3,000 fans inside an NYPD “frozen zone”
• Free but ticketed; security checkpoints close at 8:30 p.m.
3. Wollman Rink, Central Park – 59th Street entrance
• Free admission with advance reservation
• Ice rink converted to massive LED screen and fan zone
Why the surge in capacity? MSG’s James Dolan and City Hall struck a last-minute compromise after backlash over the abrupt cancellation of earlier gatherings that left thousands scrambling to watch Games 3 and 4 on LinkNYC kiosks and bar TVs. Permits now allow triple the headcount previously approved, and officials say extra metal detectors, bag checks and flood-lighting will keep the festivities safe.
How to score tickets fast
• Radio City: log on to Knicks.com/playoffs or Ticketmaster exactly at 10 a.m.—last round sold out in under three minutes.
• Plaza 33 & Central Park: visit the same Knicks portal, choose “Free Watch Party” and download the mobile QR code. Each fan can claim two passes; IDs will be scanned at entry.
• Arrive early. Queueing begins at 6 p.m., and NYPD will close streets surrounding MSG from 31st to 34th once capacities are met.
What fans can bring (and what to leave home)
Allowed: clear bags, foldable camp chairs, sealed water bottles, signs under 18"x24".
Banned: alcohol, professional camera rigs, drones, vuvuzelas, and any Spurs gear deemed “provocative,” according to MSG security guidelines.
Transit tips
• Subway: take the A, C, E, 1, 2 or 3 to 34th-Penn for Plaza 33; B, D, F, M to 47-50th for Radio City; N, R, W via 5th Ave/59th for Central Park.
• LIRR and NJ Transit riders are urged to use 7th-Avenue exits to prevent bottlenecks.
• Citi Bike will offer free overtime charges on docks near all three locations.
Game-night schedule (all times ET)
7:30 p.m. – Gates open, Knicks DJ spins classic ’90s tracks
8:45 p.m. – Live warm-up show with John Starks and Latrell Sprewell
9:00 p.m. – Spurs vs. Knicks Game 5 tip-off from San Antonio
Halftime – T-shirt cannon blitz plus surprise musical guest rumored to be a Queens rap icon
The stakes could not be higher: New York leads the series 3-1 after Wednesday’s record 29-point comeback, and a victory tonight would deliver the franchise’s first championship since 1973. City officials are already prepping confetti trucks, but for the 12,000 fans lucky enough to snag a seat at an official Knicks watch party, history might unfold on the biggest screens the five boroughs have ever seen.
