Check Your Fridge: USDA Issues Nationwide Recall of Kayem Foods Sausages Over Contamination Fears
• Hot Trendy News
Kayem Foods Inc. has issued a nationwide Class I recall for roughly 1.58 million pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) meat and poultry items after routine monitoring uncovered that a warehouse cooler in Chelsea, Massachusetts, repeatedly rose above safe holding temperatures, creating a risk for bacterial growth.
What’s being recalled
• Hot dogs, cocktail franks, kielbasa, bratwurst
• Bacon strips and slabs
• Sliced deli meats including ham, turkey, bologna and corned beef
• Smoked sausages and cooked chicken breast
All recalled packs carry establishment numbers “EST. M/P 7839,” “EST. P 20935A” or “EST. M 9520” inside the USDA mark of inspection and were produced March 31–October 7, 2026. Products were shipped to retailers, food-service distributors and club stores in all 50 states and to Hong Kong.
Why this matters
Temperature abuse in fully cooked meats can let pathogens such as Listeria monocytogenes or Clostridium perfringens multiply to dangerous levels, even if packages remain sealed. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) warns that consuming affected products could lead to severe illness, particularly for children, seniors, pregnant people and those with weakened immune systems. No illnesses have been confirmed to date, but the agency urges vigilance.
Consumer action checklist
1. Check your refrigerator and freezer for any Kayem, Deutschmacher, al Fresco or other house-labeled meats with the lot codes noted above.
2. Do NOT taste the product. Either discard it securely or return it to the store for a refund.
3. Clean and sanitize any surfaces or utensils that may have touched the recalled meat.
4. If you have eaten a recalled item and develop fever, vomiting or diarrhea, contact a healthcare provider and mention “Kayem Foods recall.”
