Plot & Performances Retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth) is dragged back into the underworld when a new syndicate threatens his family. Director Nelson Dilipkumar doubles down on slick set-pieces, peppering them with trademark black comedy. Cameos by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and a five-minute Hrithik Roshan walk-on add star wattage, while Vidya Balan and SJ Suryah inject emotional stakes. Anirudh’s thunderous score turns every slow-mo stride into a stadium moment. Critical Pulse • India Today’s 3-star verdict hails Rajinikanth’s “invincible aura” and Nelson’s humour but notes script bumps in the latter half. • Social media splits between “nuclear blockbuster” chants and complaints of a predictable template and less-impactful cameos. Technical Highs • Cinematographer Vijay Kartik Kannan crafts an airstrip mirage shot already going viral. • Anirudh Ravichander’s BGM, especially during “Sera Se Kuzera,” keeps phones lit for FDFS whistle videos. Box Office Outlook Trade trackers project a ₹40-crore India nett by end of Day 1, positioning the film to challenge Rajini’s own Coolie (₹151 crore opening) over the weekend. Sustained momentum in Telugu and Hindi belts will decide if the sequel can cross the elusive ₹1,000-crore lifetime dream. Verdict Jailer 2 is a feast of elevation scenes, crackling one-liners and vintage Superstar charisma. Flaws in pacing aside, Nelson delivers the mass-heavy carnival fans queued up for. If early trends hold, Tiger Muthuvel may have just locked up another box-office record.
