Jackson Chourio’s Jaw-Dropping Rise: How the Brewers’ Teen Phenom Is Rewriting MLB History
• Hot Trendy News
Milwaukee—After a month-long stint on the injured list with a fractured thumb, top prospect Jackson Chourio exploded back onto the big-league stage by going 4-for-4 in his 2026 season debut against St. Louis, flashing the electric bat speed that made him baseball’s No. 1 overall prospect last year.
The Milwaukee Brewers initially kept the 22-year-old outfielder at their Arizona complex for extra rehab, resisting calls to rush him back until doctors cleared the fracture at the base of his right thumb. That patience paid off. Since returning on May 5, Chourio has slashed .348/.402/.598 with eight homers and 28 RBIs, including a four-hit, four-RBI outburst versus the Cubs on June 13 that drew national attention.
Beyond the hot start, Chourio’s long-term security is already in place. The Venezuelan phenom is playing under the record-setting eight-year, $82 million extension he signed before ever appearing in a major-league game, a deal that carries club options through 2033. With payroll locked and production surging, Milwaukee projects Chourio as the centerpiece of an outfield core that also features Sal Frelick and Garrett Mitchell.
Scouts still point to plate discipline as the final frontier—he’s chasing 31 percent of pitches outside the zone—but early returns show improvement, with his walk rate up two points from 2025. Add elite sprint speed (29.5 ft/s) and above-average center-field jumps, and Chourio suddenly looks like a five-tool force capable of anchoring the lineup for the next decade.
Milwaukee, which entered play Sunday just two games behind first-place Cincinnati, believes Chourio’s return could be the catalyst for a summer surge. Manager Pat Murphy hinted that the rookie could move into the No. 2 spot “sooner rather than later” to maximize his on-base skills ahead of Christian Yelich.
If his first week back is any preview, Jackson Chourio isn’t simply healthy—he’s ready to make good on the contract that shocked the sport and to rewrite the Brewers’ franchise record book in the process.
