Is the Stock Market Open Today? Full Trading Schedule, Holiday Hours & Key Updates
• Hot Trendy News
Updated: June 19, 2025 — 08:00 a.m. ET
Short answer: U.S. equity markets are closed today, Thursday, June 19, 2025, in observance of Juneteenth National Independence Day. Normal trading will resume tomorrow, Friday, June 20, 2025.
Why the NYSE and Nasdaq are shut
Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021, and both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq added it to their annual holiday calendars, treating it the same way they handle Independence Day or Memorial Day. That means no regular, pre-market, after-hours, or options sessions today, and orders placed via brokerage apps will queue until Friday’s opening bell.
What about bond and futures trading?
• The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) recommends a full-day closure for U.S. Treasury trading as well.
• CME Group’s equity index futures will operate on a shortened schedule, halting at 1 p.m. ET and reopening at 6 p.m. ET for the overnight session.
Bank hours, mail service, and government offices
Because Juneteenth is also a banking holiday, most brick-and-mortar branches are dark, though ATMs and online banking remain available. The U.S. Postal Service pauses regular mail delivery, and federal offices are closed.
When does the stock market open next?
• Friday, June 20: Regular hours, 9:30 a.m.–4 p.m. ET
• Pre-market starts at 4 a.m. ET; after-hours runs until 8 p.m. ET
Remaining U.S. stock-market holidays in 2025
• Independence Day: Friday, July 4
• Labor Day: Monday, September 1
• Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, November 27 (early close at 1 p.m. ET on Nov. 28)
• Christmas Day: Thursday, December 25
Key takeaway for investors searching “is the stock market open today”
If you need to trade U.S. stocks, ETFs, or options, you’ll have to wait until tomorrow. International exchanges such as the London Stock Exchange and Tokyo Stock Exchange follow their own calendars and remain open, so global ETFs may still move in response to overseas trading.
