Nationwide Ice Cream Recall: Urgent Listeria Warning—See If Your Favorite Brand Is Affected
• Hot Trendy News
Consumers are facing a new ice cream recall after separate safety alerts from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Here’s what you need to know to protect your freezer—and your health.
Why the latest ice cream recall matters
The term “ice cream recall” is spiking again this week because of two unrelated contamination concerns and an earlier multi-brand listeria scare still prompting questions. Together they cover everything from foreign objects to bacterial risk, putting popular treats under scrutiny.
1. Gifford’s Dairy recall for rubber pieces
• Product: HomeMaine Power Play Fudge, one-quart cartons
• Lot code 26184; “Best by” 08/27/27; UPC 8 60864 00030 7
• Distribution: Grocery chains in Maine, Massachusetts and Vermont
The family-owned Skowhegan, ME producer pulled 3,585 cartons after equipment reportedly shed rubber into the mix, prompting a Class II recall classification by the FDA.
2. Outshine Fruit Bars recall for possible glass
• Brand owner: Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc.
• Reason: Potential glass fragments in select fruit bars
• Recall date: 08/18/26
The alert appears on the FDA’s running recall list, which notes a risk of injury if shards are ingested.
3. Ongoing questions after Totally Cool listeria investigation
Although initiated in 2024, the nationwide Totally Cool, Inc. recall—covering Friendly’s, Hershey’s, Jeni’s, Chipwich and more—continues to dominate “ice cream recall” searches. FDA sampling found Listeria monocytogenes at the Maryland facility, leading to a full stop in production while the company overhauls sanitation protocols.
Health risks to watch
• Listeria can trigger high fever, headache, miscarriage or fatal infection in vulnerable groups.
• Swallowing rubber or glass may cause choking, mouth lacerations or internal injury.
How to check your freezer now
1. Look for the exact lot codes and “best by” dates listed above.
2. Compare any Outshine Fruit Bars against the FDA link for affected flavors.
3. If you bought ice cream anywhere in June–August 2026 and the label references Totally Cool, dispose of it or request a refund.
What to do with recalled items
• Do NOT taste-test. Seal the product in a plastic bag and discard it or return it to the store for credit.
• Clean any surfaces, scoops or bowls that contacted the ice cream with hot, soapy water.
• Monitor for symptoms (fever, severe stomach pain, vomiting). Seek medical advice if they appear within 70 days of possible listeria exposure.
Stay ahead of future ice cream recalls
Sign up for FDA email alerts, inspect containers before eating and keep freezer temps at or below 0 °F to slow bacterial growth. Following these steps will help ensure your next scoop is safe—as well as sweet.
