Houston Weather Alert: Severe Storms and Flash Floods Expected—What You Need to Know
• Hot Trendy News
Houston residents can expect a volatile start to the Thanksgiving travel week as a humid Monday peaks near 82 °F before an evening line of thunderstorms sweeps across the metro area. FOX 26 meteorologists have issued a Storm Alert, warning of gusts over 45 mph, dime-size hail and brief street flooding between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.
The leading edge of the front should reach the western suburbs around the evening commute and push through downtown Houston by mid-evening. Forecast models show rainfall totals of 0.5″–1.5″, enough to pond on the usual underpasses along I-45 and the North Loop. The National Weather Service has not posted a tornado watch, but isolated spin-ups can’t be ruled out in the warm, soupy air mass.
Behind the storms, a sharp north wind ushers in noticeably cooler air. Tuesday’s high falls to the upper 70s, and by Wednesday morning metro lows slip to 50–52 °F, the coolest readings since early April. The drier, crisp conditions stick around through Thanksgiving Day, giving holiday travelers two clear days for road and air departures.
Another moisture surge arrives late Friday as Gulf moisture rides back into Southeast Texas. Forecast guidance signals a second round of showers and thunderstorms from Friday night through early Saturday; some models hint at locally heavy rain over the coastal counties, so keep a close eye on updated forecasts if you have outdoor plans. The weekend also brings a quick rebound in daytime highs to around 70 °F before another weak cold front presses in Sunday night.
What Houston drivers should do:
• Slow down on rain-slicked freeways, especially the Southwest Freeway at the I-610 interchange.
• Never attempt to cross water covering more than a few inches of the roadway—“turn around, don’t drown.”
• Secure loose patio furniture ahead of Monday evening’s gust front.
Key takeaways: a stormy Monday evening, a mid-week cool-down, and another wet period late Friday. Stay weather-aware, enable alerts on your phone and check the latest Houston weather forecast before hitting the road this Thanksgiving week.
