Fox Sports Surprise Shake-Up: New Streaming Deal Promises More Free Live Games in 2025
• Hot Trendy News
Fox Sports steps into the direct-to-consumer arena this fall with the debut of “Fox One,” a standalone streaming service designed to deliver every marquee game, studio show and live event the network owns—without a cable subscription. According to company executives, the platform will be live before Week 1 of the 2025 college football season and in place for the NFL’s opening kickoff, ending Fox’s status as the last major broadcaster without an all-in streaming product.
WHAT FOX ONE INCLUDES
• Live NFL on FOX, including Sunday afternoon doubleheaders and exclusive NFC playoff games
• Big Noon Saturday college football, plus the Big Ten championship and select Pac-12 and Big 12 matchups
• MLB regular-season and postseason broadcasts, highlighted by the World Series
• UFL, NASCAR, FIFA international soccer, and weekly WWE SmackDown coverage
• Every episode of flagship studio shows such as “Undisputed,” “The Herd,” “Speak” and “First Things First” available on-demand moments after airing
PRICING AND BUNDLE OPTIONS
Fox has not released final pricing, but industry analysts expect a monthly fee in the $20–$25 range, roughly in line with ESPN + and Peacock Premium Plus. Executives have hinted at introductory bundles that pair Fox One with Tubi’s ad-supported library, allowing subscribers to toggle between live sports and 200,000+ free movies and TV episodes.
WHY FOX IS MOVING NOW
Cord-cutting accelerated by 13 percent year-over-year in 2024, and research from MoffettNathanson estimates that fewer than 46 million U.S. households will keep a traditional cable package by January 2026. By launching Fox One before the NFL renegotiates its media rights, Fox Sports positions itself for the next decade of streaming-first distribution while preserving lucrative linear ad revenue on broadcast affiliates.
DEVICE SUPPORT AT LAUNCH
Fox One will be available on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, smart TVs from Samsung and LG, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and web browsers. Subscribers can stream on up to three devices simultaneously and access 4K HDR feeds for select NFL and FIFA matches, provided their hardware supports the format.
REGIONAL SPORTS AND BLACKOUT RULES
Unlike the former Fox Sports regional networks—now Bally Sports—Fox One will not carry local MLB, NBA or NHL games. However, the service will feature occasional market-exclusive simulcasts when national windows permit. Blackout restrictions tied to league agreements will still apply, so viewers may need a TV-provider login to unlock hometown telecasts.
IMPACT ON CORD-CUTTERS
Fans who rely on live TV streaming bundles such as YouTube TV or Hulu + Live TV can keep their current setup; Fox has renewed carriage deals with both. But casual viewers who only tune in for NFL Sundays or the World Series now have a low-commitment alternative. Annual plans are expected to include a discounted price and the option to pause for the MLB off-season.
HOW TO SIGN UP
Pre-registration opens in early August at FoxSports.com. Users can reserve a username, set their favorite teams for personalized alerts and receive a 7-day free trial code at launch. Season-ticket holders for NFL, Big Ten or MLB clubs will get an email with an additional free month, courtesy of league partnerships designed to boost early adoption.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR FOX SPORTS
Insiders say Fox is exploring augmented-reality overlays that let fans call up real-time stats and alternate camera angles inside the Fox One app. Phase two of the rollout will introduce in-app betting integration through a yet-to-be-named sportsbook partner, pending regulatory approval in all 26 legal states. If successful, Fox One could become the template for other broadcast networks weighing a full pivot to streaming.
BOTTOM LINE
Fox Sports’ new streaming venture gives fans a flexible, cable-free way to follow the NFL, college football, MLB playoffs and more—all in one app. With the fall sports calendar approaching, Fox One arrives at exactly the right moment for viewers ready to cut the cord without missing a single snap, pitch or goal.
