Fox Sports’ Surprise Free-Streaming Move Sparks Record Traffic—Here’s How to Watch Live Today
• Hot Trendy News
Fox Sports is riding an unprecedented ratings wave as it gears up for Sunday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup™ Final between Spain and Argentina, unveiling an all-day broadcast schedule that includes live pre-match shows from Times Square, a star-studded commentary team headlined by Alexi Lalas and Carli Lloyd, and extended digital streams on the FOX Sports app and Tubi.
The network’s momentum has been building all month. Last Wednesday’s semifinals averaged 15.088 million viewers—the largest U.S. audience ever for a men’s World Cup semifinal on English-language television. Quarterfinals coverage two days earlier drew 15.644 million viewers, another Fox era record, while the tournament’s most-watched match so far remains Mexico-England’s Round-of-16 thriller, which peaked at 21.742 million.
Fox Sports executives attribute the surge to a combination of favorable U.S. kickoff windows, an aggressive cross-platform promotional push during MLB and NASCAR telecasts, and an expanded digital strategy that places every match in 4K on connected TVs. “We’re seeing double-digit growth in authenticated streaming year-over-year,” said David Neal, Executive Producer of FIFA World Cup™ on Fox, noting that mobile and CTV viewing now account for nearly a quarter of total minutes consumed.
Sunday’s coverage begins at 8 a.m. ET with “World Cup Live,” followed by a two-hour edition of “FOX Soccer Sunday.” Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s taped sit-down with reporter Jenny Taft will air during the second pre-match hour, part of a broader slate of celebrity features designed to widen the Final’s appeal. Kickoff from MetLife Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET, with John Strong and Stu Holden on the call and rules analyst Mark Clattenburg providing VAR explanations in real time. Post-match programming continues until midnight ET, leveraging Fox’s broadcast network and FS1 to keep viewers inside the World Cup conversation.
Looking beyond soccer, Fox Sports is parlaying its World Cup halo into marquee summer properties. The network just announced its on-air roster for the 96th MLB All-Star Game in Seattle, anchored by Joe Davis and Hall of Famer Derek Jeter, and will roll straight into exclusive coverage of NASCAR’s Chicago Street Race the following weekend.
With record audiences, a robust streaming pipeline and a programming calendar that seamlessly bridges soccer, baseball and motorsports, Fox Sports enters the World Cup Final positioned not only for a historic Sunday but for a ratings summer that could reset the bar for U.S. multi-sport broadcasters.
