Google’s new Fitbit Air is officially here, and the $99.99 band is already shaking up the entry-level wearable market. The screen-less tracker weighs just 12 g with its soft fabric strap, yet it packs an optical heart-rate monitor, accelerometer, gyroscope, SpO₂ sensor and even skin-temperature tracking—features once reserved for far pricier devices. Unlike past Fitbits, the Air’s pebble-shaped sensor pops out so you can drop it into sport, leather or clip accessories, echoing the modular charisma of the 2012 Fitbit One while staying 25 percent smaller than today’s Luxe and 50 percent smaller than an Inspire. A seven-day battery, 50 m water-resistance and rapid “five-minute top-up for a full day” charging round out the hardware specs. Fitbit Air is also the first device to debut under Google’s freshly unified Google Health platform. On May 19 the existing Fitbit app merges with Health Connect, and Fitbit Premium becomes Google Health Premium, bringing AI-powered coaching that can digest workout stats, medical records and even camera-logged meals into one chat-style feed. The Air works alongside a Pixel Watch, letting power users swap to the lighter band for sleep or HIIT sessions without losing continuous data. At $99, Google is clearly targeting Whoop’s subscription-heavy model and Garmin’s recovery metrics, but without locking customers into another monthly fee—Google Health Premium remains optional at $9.99. If the AI coach delivers meaningful insights instead of generic “drink water” prompts, Fitbit Air could become 2026’s breakout mainstream tracker. Pre-orders are live today in Sea, Charcoal and Berry colorways; shipping starts May 26 through Google Store, Amazon and major retailers worldwide.
