California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is buzzing as thousands of Matadors stream back to campus for the launch of the Spring 2026 semester on Tuesday, Jan. 20. The new term brings a packed academic calendar, marquee athletic events and fresh opportunities for students, faculty and the wider San Fernando Valley community. Classes resume the day after the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, with weekday instruction beginning Jan. 20 and weekend courses kicking off Jan. 24. Key dates already circled by students include the Feb. 6 graduate drop deadline, Spring Recess from March 16–22 and finals week running May 9–15. Commencement ceremonies will follow May 15–18, celebrating the next generation of CSUN graduates. Beyond the classroom, CSUN’s athletics programs promise to keep fans energized. Track & Field ignites its 33rd indoor season this week at the Nevada Invitational in Reno, where a deep roster of returning standouts such as Tibyasa Matovu and Joey Nations join a talented crop of newcomers. After Reno, the Matadors head to Albuquerque for the Don Kirby Invitational in February before eyeing the MPSF Indoor Championships in March. Men’s basketball, riding momentum from a recent Big West road victory, hosts a slate of critical conference matchups inside Premier America Credit Union Arena throughout January and February. Meanwhile, women’s volleyball and men’s volleyball are gearing up for competitive spring schedules that feature nationally ranked foes. Fans can secure tickets through the CSUN Athletics app and follow live streams on ESPN+ for select contests. Arts and culture also flourish this semester. The Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (“The Soraya”) welcomes Grammy-winning artists and diverse global performers, while the University Library Gallery showcases student and faculty exhibitions spotlighting social justice and environmental themes. Prospective attendees should monitor the CSUN Events Calendar for free lectures, film screenings and music recitals offered almost daily. Student services are expanding as well. The award-winning CSUN VITA Clinic opens its doors in late January to provide free tax-preparation assistance to qualifying community members, and the Career Center launches its Spring Job Fair series in February, connecting students with top employers across tech, entertainment and healthcare. For newcomers, navigating the 356-acre Northridge campus is easier than ever thanks to updated digital maps in the CSUN app and additional e-scooter docking stations near the University Student Union and Bayramian Hall. Parking permits can be purchased online, and the campus shuttle resumes full service routes beginning Jan. 20. Whether you’re a first-year student finding your footing, a senior counting down to commencement or an alum returning to cheer on the Matadors, Spring 2026 at CSUN promises academic rigor, competitive spirit and vibrant community engagement. Stay updated by bookmarking the Student Academic Calendar, following @csun_edu and @GoMatadors on social media, and subscribing to CSUN Newsroom alerts for real-time coverage of breaking campus developments.
