A fast–moving clipper system is dropping 1–3 inches of fresh snow across Connecticut this morning, prompting widespread school closings and delays just two days after Blizzard Calvin buried parts of the state under nearly two feet of snow. Why so many districts are closed • Road crews are still clearing secondary roads and school parking lots left icy by Monday’s blizzard. • The National Weather Service has a Winter Weather Advisory in place until noon for most of the state as snow overruns the morning commute. • Wind-whipped snow is expected to taper by midday, but refreezing is likely overnight as lows slip back into the teens. Major districts announcing full closures today • Bridgeport, Danbury, New Haven, Waterbury, Bristol, Stratford, Southington, Avon, Simsbury, Torrington • Regional districts 7, 14, 17 and 20 • Magnet networks such as CREC, LEARN and Goodwin University’s riverfront campuses • Numerous smaller systems from Ansonia to Woodstock (see complete A-to-Z list below) Two-hour delays Only a handful of districts, including Regional District 16 and Brooklyn, opted for delayed openings instead of full snow days. How families can stay updated The master “Closings & Delays” board at WTNH-News 8 is being refreshed every few minutes and remains the quickest way to confirm your child’s status. CT Insider is also updating a running list of shutdowns as superintendents report in. Make-up days and spring break State law still requires 180 instructional days, so most districts will extend the academic year into late June. Several superintendents told CT Insider they will wait to see whether additional March storms materialize before deciding whether to tap scheduled spring-break days. Driving reminders CT DOT urges commuters to reduce speed, leave extra braking distance, and give plow trucks plenty of room. Black ice is a risk tonight as wet pavement flashes-freeze. What’s next Forecasters expect a brief warm-up Wednesday afternoon with highs near 40°F, but another coastal system could brush southern New England this weekend. Keep an eye on updated forecasts if you have travel plans. (Complete A-to-Z school status list is available on the WTNH closings dashboard.)
