CenterPoint Outage Map Live: Latest Power Restoration Times & How to Get Alerts
• Hot Trendy News
HOUSTON—Pre-dawn thunderstorms packing 60-mph wind gusts and cloud-to-ground lightning knocked out electricity to tens of thousands of CenterPoint Energy customers across southeast Texas early Tuesday, sending search interest in “CenterPoint outage” surging. According to the utility’s live outage tracker, more than 92,000 homes and businesses were without power at 12:25 a.m., with the hardest-hit ZIP codes stretching from the Houston Heights to Pasadena and Baytown.
Latest numbers and affected areas
• Peak outages: 104,000+ customers shortly after midnight
• Current outages (9 a.m. CT): about 83,000, down from the overnight high
• Top outage clusters: Inner Loop north of I-10, Hobby Airport corridor, coastal Galveston County
Why the lights went out
CenterPoint engineers attribute the failures to wind-blown tree limbs, lightning strikes on distribution lines, and “nested outages”—localized faults that remain after a main feeder is restored. Heavy rain also forced crews to slow bucket-truck work for safety, extending restoration times in several neighborhoods.
How to check your CenterPoint outage status
1. Visit tracker.centerpointenergy.com or go to the interactive map link on the utility’s homepage.
2. Enter your ZIP code to see crew assignments and estimated restoration windows, which update every 15 minutes.
3. Sign up for the free Power Alert Service to receive text or email updates when status changes.
Restoration timeline
CenterPoint says the “vast majority” of customers should see service return by midnight, with isolated pockets—particularly where equipment needs replacement—potentially waiting until Wednesday. More than 750 linemen, including mutual-aid crews from Indiana and Louisiana, are already in the field. Early triage work has shaved roughly 125 million customer-minutes of interruption compared with similar storms last year, the company noted.
Safety tips while power is out
• Keep refrigerators closed—food stays cold about four hours.
• Never run generators indoors; position them at least 20 ft. from doors and windows.
• Treat all downed wires as live; report hazards immediately by calling 713-207-2222 (electric) or 888-876-5786 (gas).
• Use flashlights, not candles, to reduce fire risk.
What to do if your electricity stays off
If your neighbors’ lights return but yours do not, call CenterPoint or file a fresh ticket through the outage map—your address may be part of a nested outage requiring a separate crew dispatch. Document spoiled food and surge-damaged electronics for possible insurance or reimbursement claims.
With severe-weather season ramping up, bookmark the CenterPoint outage map now so you’re ready the next time storms threaten. Power may be temporary, but preparedness—and a charged phone—can keep you connected until the grid is fully back online.
