Shock Blow for Eagles: Cam Jurgens Hits Concussion Protocol Days Before Week 5 Clash

Ravens Land Pro Bowl Center Cam Jurgens in Blockbuster Trade Baltimore’s front-office finally plugged its revolving-door problem at center by acquiring two-time Pro Bowler Cam Jurgens from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-rounder, plus a late-round swap. Jurgens, 27, is under contract through 2029, giving the Ravens a long-term anchor on the interior line. Why the Ravens Pulled the Trigger • Injury crisis: Baltimore is already on its fourth starting center of 2026 after Tyler Linderbaum’s free-agency exit and multiple season-ending injuries to replacements. • Scheme fit: GM Eric DeCosta said the team “admired Jurgens since the draft,” praising his athleticism for the Ravens’ wide-zone run game. • Contract security: A controllable starter through 2029 eliminates yearly free-agent uncertainty. State of Jurgens’ Health The trade comes as Jurgens navigates the NFL’s five-step concussion protocol after self-reporting symptoms following Week 4. He also struggled in a short-lived move to left guard when Landon Dickerson hit IR, prompting some Eagles fans to call for a benching. Baltimore expects him to reclaim his natural center spot once cleared, sliding rookie Olaivavega Ioane back to guard. Fallout for the Eagles • Cap flexibility: Shipping Jurgens clears $9.6 million in 2027 salary, resources Philadelphia can redirect toward rebuilding an offensive line also reeling from Lane Johnson’s sudden retirement. • Youth movement: Third-round rookie Drew Kendall is slated to continue at center, while Willie Lampkin could notch his first NFL start at left guard this Sunday. • Draft capital: GM Howie Roseman adds another premium pick in a deep 2028 class to accelerate the trench makeover. What’s Next for Baltimore • Short-term plan: Ioane is expected to start again in Week 5 at Atlanta while Jurgens completes protocol testing, but coaches hope the new arrival can debut by Week 6. • Long-term implications: With Lamar Jackson nursing an ankle sprain, a stabilized interior line is critical for both pass protection and the Ravens’ zone-read ground attack. • Depth chart shuffle: Veteran guard Kevin Zeitler, who handled emergency center snaps earlier this year, returns to a pure guard role, boosting overall line cohesion.
