Who Is Calle Rosén? 5 Fast Facts on the Rising NHL Defenseman Everyone’s Googling
• Hot Trendy News
St. Louis – In a move that reunites a familiar face with the Gateway City, the St. Louis Blues have re-acquired Swedish defenseman Calle Rosén from the Washington Capitals in exchange for fellow blueliner Corey Schueneman.
Rosén, 31, will report directly to the Blues’ AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds, where his puck-moving style and veteran presence are expected to bolster a blue line currently coping with injuries and inconsistency. Before this season, Rosén began 2025-26 with the Capitals’ farm club in Hershey, piling up seven points (1 G, 6 A) in just nine games—production that caught the attention of St. Louis management after a rocky start to the Blues’ campaign.
The Växjö native is no stranger to Enterprise Center. During his previous three-year stint with the Blues (2021-24), Rosén skated in 72 NHL contests and broke out in 2022-23 with a career-best 18 points, including eight goals that showcased his knack for jumping into the rush. Across parts of six NHL seasons with Toronto, Colorado and St. Louis, he has posted 29 points in 93 games while logging steady minutes on both special-teams units.
For the Blues, depth on the left side became a priority after injuries to Jake Neighbours and Torey Krug stretched the roster thin. Rosén’s familiarity with head coach Drew Bannister’s system should allow him to slide seamlessly into spot duty when needed, while giving the Thunderbirds an instant top-pair catalyst and mentor for prospects like Leo Lööf and Hunter Skinner.
Washington, meanwhile, acquires 29-year-old Schueneman, a steady, stay-at-home defender who provides the Capitals’ AHL club with shot-blocking and penalty-killing reliability. The deal also frees a contract slot for the Caps and positions them to give more ice time to up-and-coming puck movers Vincent Iorio and Alexander Alexeyev.
Key numbers on Calle Rosén
• 360 AHL regular-season games: 198 pts (36 G, 162 A) and +47 rating
• 93 NHL games: 6 G, 23 A, 29 pts, 53.3 CF% at 5-on-5
• 2022-23 with St. Louis: 8 G, 10 A in 49 GP, led Blues defensemen in goals despite averaging just 16:34 TOI
What’s next
Rosén is expected to make his Thunderbirds return later this week against the Providence Bruins. If he replicates last year’s two-way excellence, a call-up to the NHL roster could come quickly, especially with the Blues navigating a brutal November schedule that features Central Division clashes against the Stars, Avalanche and Jets.
For fans in St. Louis, the trade signals the organization’s commitment to shoring up defensive depth without sacrificing future assets, while giving a proven contributor a second chance to make noise in the Note.
