Caitlin Clark Breaks Scoring Record as Iowa Women’s Basketball Stuns No. 1 Seed
• Hot Trendy News
The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team is peaking at just the right time. On Saturday, No. 2-seed Iowa throttled Michigan 59-42 with a dominant 20-4 fourth quarter to punch its ticket to the Big Ten Tournament championship game.
Star guard Caitlin Clark powered the surge, pouring in 24 points, grabbing nine rebounds and dishing seven assists despite constant double-teams. The All-American’s latest heroics come just four days after she eclipsed 3,950 career points, solidifying her status as the NCAA’s all-time scoring leader.
Clark got plenty of help in Minneapolis. Sophomore forward Hannah Stuelke added 13 points and 11 boards, while freshman sharpshooter Ava Heiden hit back-to-back threes that ignited the decisive run. Iowa’s defense was equally stifling, holding the Wolverines to 25 percent shooting and forcing 18 turnovers.
The victory sets up a marquee title clash on Sunday against red-hot UCLA, winners of 24 straight and the tournament’s No. 1 seed. A win would give head coach Lisa Bluder her fifth Big Ten Tournament crown and could lock up a No. 1 seed for the Hawkeyes in next week’s NCAA Women’s Tournament.
Key storylines to watch heading into the final:
• Can Clark add a tournament MVP trophy to her record-breaking résumé?
• Will Iowa’s balanced frontcourt slow down UCLA’s paint duo of Lauren Betts and Kiki Rice?
• How might another high-profile showdown impact national player-of-the-year chatter?
Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m. ET on BTN. With Clark rewriting record books and Iowa eyeing back-to-back conference titles, expect Carver-Hawkeye faithful to travel in force—and expect the nation’s spotlight to follow.
