AlaskaAir Unveils Luxury Lie-Flat Suites & New London–Rome Flights: Everything Travelers Need to Know
• Hot Trendy News
Alaska Airlines is accelerating its 2026 growth plan with a trio of headline-grabbing moves that promise to reshape the carrier’s network, product and balance sheet.
The week began with the return of Alaska service to California’s North Coast: a daily Embraer 175 hop between Humboldt County’s Arcata-Eureka Airport (ACV) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) lifted off on 8 April, restoring a link the region lost 14 years ago and giving Pacific Northwest flyers another fast path to the redwoods.
Just three weeks later, Alaska will break new ground overseas when flight AS 650 departs SEA for Rome Fiumicino on 28 April. The daily 5,673-mile sector—operated by a newly delivered Boeing 787-9—marks the company’s first trans-Atlantic service and signals a strategic push to capture premium West Coast-Europe demand.
To compete on these ultra-long routes, the carrier has unveiled a fully lie-flat business-class cabin featuring privacy doors, wireless charging and on-demand dining. The product debuts this month on training flights before rolling out to the Rome and forthcoming London Heathrow launches in May.
Network and cabin upgrades arrive as Alaska Air Group finalises its $1.9 billion integration of Hawaiian Airlines, moving both carriers under a single FAA certificate while pledging to keep Hawai‘i’s iconic Pualani brand visible across the Islands’ inter-island network.
Investors will hear more when the company hosts its first-quarter 2026 earnings call on 20 April. Management is expected to detail Rome start-up costs, merger synergies and capacity growth that analysts already project will outpace U.S. peers this summer.
With fresh domestic feed, a bold European debut, a premium cabin reboot and the Hawaiian tie-up nearing the finish line, Alaska Airlines is positioning itself as the West Coast’s next global contender—just in time for peak travel season.
