Alaska Airlines Just Announced Nonstop Seattle-London Flights Launching 2026
• Hot Trendy News
Alaska Airlines is accelerating its transformation from a West Coast workhorse into a truly global carrier, kicking off the summer travel rush with the launch of nonstop daily flights between Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and London Heathrow (LHR). The inaugural Boeing 787-9 flight departed this morning, marking Alaska’s first regularly scheduled service to the U.K. and the first of three new European routes arriving in May.
Next up: Reykjavík launches on 28 May, followed by the late-April debut of Seattle–Rome, giving Mileage Plan members unprecedented reach across the Atlantic at a moment when demand for Europe is soaring. CEO Ben Minicucci says the long-haul push will continue, hinting that a second mainland-Europe gateway from Seattle is already on the 2026 timetable.
Beyond trans-Atlantic growth, Alaska is tightening its grip on the West Coast. The carrier just reinstated Long Beach (LGB) service and added Santa Rosa (STS)–Seattle flights, creating same-day links between California wine country, Southern California beaches and the Pacific Northwest tech corridor. Combined with fresh seasonal frequencies to Hawai‘i and Alaska’s own home-state destinations, the moves bring the airline’s total 2026 network additions to 42 routes.
Premium flyers will notice upgrades on the ground as well. A flagship 20,000-sq-ft lounge opens at SEA’s International Arrivals Facility next month, featuring West Coast craft beer taps, locally roasted espresso and the carrier’s first dedicated quiet suites for long-haul business travelers. Inside the cabin, the retrofitted Dreamliners introduce Alaska’s debut international business suite with sliding doors, artisan-inspired meals and free inflight messaging—amenities designed to lure corporate accounts away from legacy competitors.
Financially, the strategy is already paying off. Alaska Air Group reported a narrower-than-expected first-quarter loss and reaffirmed full-year guidance, crediting “record advance bookings” on the new trans-Atlantic flights and double-digit loyalty revenue growth. Analysts say every percentage point of premium-cabin sales on the London route adds roughly $5 million in annual operating income.
What it means for travelers:
• More award seats. Mileage Plan opened saver-level space on the first 60 days of SEA-LHR, a rarity on metal-neutral joint ventures.
• Oneworld connectivity. Same-terminal transfers in Heathrow to British Airways give one-stop access to 65 European cities.
• Lower fares. Introductory economy pricing starts at $499 round-trip SEA-LHR, undercutting Delta and United by about $150 on comparable dates.
With new long-haul jets arriving every three weeks and merger integration with Hawaiian Airlines delivering extra gates in Honolulu, Alaska Airlines appears set to rewrite its playbook from niche regional player to premium global challenger—just in time for peak summer demand.
